The Greatest Styles in Sight

One in six children ages 5 to 12 has vision performance problems that can lead to learning problems. Early detection and correction of vision problems is essential because development of the vision system is complete by the age of nine. Many vision disorders may not surface until the fourth or fifth grade, when textbook print becomes smaller. Early detection is particularly important for elementary school children who are learning to read and write. After all, vision accounts for 80% of learning in the first twelve years of life.

Your lifestyle should impact your eyewear decisions! How many pairs of shoes do you own? Shoes for exercise...shoes for work...shoes for dining out...shoes for working in the yard. Your eyewear should have at least that many options, too.

1.  Occupation: Do you do a lot of computer work? Close work? Or do you work outside?

Computer users often need special lenses, tints and coatings to give them the best possible vision while using the computer, and to relieve eye fatigue.

2.  Hobbies: Do you play a musical instrument? Video or computer games? Needlepoint? Hunting? Fishing?

Musicians can benefit greatly from lenses that give them the intermediate vision correction to see the music on a stand or on the piano and the distance vision to see their director.

3.  Sports: Do you play golf? Softball? Racquetball?

Sports participants need PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR, AS DO ALL CHILDREN. Special tints can also be applied that will improve the game of the weekend golfer, and polarized lenses will give those who love the water the protection from glare that they need plus improved vision while they enjoy fishing and boating.

4.  Interests: Do you travel the globe? Going to the theater/opera? Watching major league baseball? Playing with the grandchildren?
Doctors recommend getting an annual exam to verify if there have been any changes in your vision correction, but more importantly to examine the health of the eyes. Glaucoma is a silent predator that can cause blindness if left undetected and untreated.
High blood pressure and diabetes can wreak havoc with your vision if not treated properly by your physician. The complete eye examinations performed by an ophthalmologist or optometrist on a yearly basis gives you a new prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses and also gives you assurance that any problems will be diagnosed and treated.
POLYCARBONATE lenses are the safest lenses available today. They are impact resistant and offer some protection from flying objects. Though not unbreakable, they are the lenses that have been approved by OSHA as being the safest. All children, sports participants, and anyone who has previously suffered an eye injury or loss, or has had eye surgery, should always choose polycarbonate lenses for their eyeglasses.
