Contact Lens Prescriptions – Chattanooga & Cleveland TN

When patients require vision correction minus glasses, contact lenses can be a convenient option. Contact lenses offer a wider field of vision and a more natural appearance when correcting refractive defects, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness. Eyear Optical's locations in Chattanooga (Shallowford and Brainerd) and Cleveland offer thorough contact lens exams and a prescriptive fit. Our skilled optometrists help each patient select the appropriate lens type and fit tailored to their lifestyle and vision requirements.

Comprehensive Contact Lens Exam

A comprehensive eye exam is the gateway to a contact lens prescription. Our optometrists conduct a thorough eye examination, which includes vision testing (refraction) and an eye health assessment. We utilize standard refraction equipment to measure your precise lens power. The examination also involves tests of eye health, including examination of the retina, optic nerve, and other structures.

Contact Lens Fitting & Prescription

During the eye examination, we take measurements required for contact lens fitting, such as corneal curvature and tear film quality. Our physicians will discuss your vision requirements and lifestyle (e.g., daily wear vs. monthly wear) and advise you on what is best for you. The optometrist will also calculate the exact lens power required for your eyes. We then fit trial lenses to confirm the fit and clarity of your vision. You will be instructed on inserting, removing, and maintaining your contacts to minimize the risk of complications.

Styles of Contact Lenses

We offer a comprehensive range of contact lenses.

  • Soft lenses, which adapt to the front of the eye, are the most widely used (approximately 85% of all contacts). The majority of soft lenses are disposable (daily, biweekly, or monthly) and must be replaced periodically to prevent protein deposit formation and reduce the risk of infection. These no-fuss disposables are available in a broad spectrum of prescriptions.
  • We can also accommodate specialty lenses, rigid gas-permeable or multifocal lenses, for patients with stronger prescriptions or astigmatism. For cosmetic purposes, you can get colored contact lenses. However, collaborating with an eye doctor is the safest method to obtain colored lenses.

Technology and Equipment

Eyear Optical stays current with the latest technology to provide precise contact lens prescriptions. We utilize computerized refractors to accurately measure vision and advanced software to enhance prescription values. Devices like keratometers and corneal topographers measure the curvature of each eye to provide an accurate lens fit.

Our Chattanooga Shallowford office utilizes Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanners to capture high-resolution images of the retina and optic nerve. These instruments, along with our doctors' experience, enable us to detect minor eye problems and ensure that any contact lenses are a safe option for you.
